In a time of Barbies, bosses and bad bitches, Birmingham’s Madame B is a breath of fresh air. After honing her skills in various cypher and open mic circuits, Madame is ready for an introduction… and what an introduction it is. Don’t let her size fool you, Madame B spits with the ferocity of a Mama Bear defending her cub.

"D’Evols" starts with a menacing loop provided by producer Suaze, only to be interrupted by gunshots and “This is not pop, no pop rocks/ Ridin round ya block, speakers bang, like gunshots/ Tires run rot, the dry spots/I bring the rain like eye drops” and so starts the lyrical onslaught of a woman with something to say.

Breaking the mold of vanity shots in front of either luxurious or hood backdrops, director J3Vision helps direct an actual story with the video. Local emcees Eugenius and Haru are both featured in the mini movie style visual, though it is Eugeneius who plays the main role of the story’s protagonist. Without spoiling too much, what can be said about the video is it is an interesting look into the paranoia comes with being a Black man in this country, while showing how that paranoia is shared amongst the mothers, sisters, wives and daughters of this generation seeing their sons, brothers, husbands, and fathers marked by an unjust and oppressive system. As I said: one hell of an introduction…
