With an eclectic flavor similar to that of The Social Experiment, a dash of Floetry, and a radiance of their own, women neo-soul / hip-hop duo “Oshun” are emerging artists, Niambi and Thandiwe, who originate from D.C. The musically brilliant D.C. natives are both 19 and students at NYU where they met. The group’s name, Oshun, pays homage to the Yoruba River deity and her sisters, Oya and Yemoja. Since the combining of their melodic forces, Oshun has toured all over the greater NY area and garnered nation-wide attention from giants such as Okayplayer and AfroPunk. ASASE YAA’s, their debut album, is woven together with methodical lyrics and bold and daring musical mash-up, a vibe similar to that of Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp a Butterfly”. Their stunning album is available now on Datpiff and Soundcloud.
