[Interview] TYRXNE Talks Growing Up in the Bronx, New Album, Inspirations, and More

You might know him as the red power ranger smoking a joint on Instagram but we know the Bronx artist as TYRXNE. He first made his appearance on Upcoming Hip Hop earlier this year with the lead single off his self-titled album TYRXNE. Since then we have been keeping an eye on him as he prepared for the release of his latest project through an interesting social media campaign full of live streams. Get to know more about him below.

Your name is pronounced Tyrone, but you added the X to let people know you are from the Bronx. How do you feel growing up there has shaped your sound and outlook on hip-hop?

The Bronx has influenced my sound in so many ways. For one, the importance of lyricism is something that's just ingrained in the culture. My music also has a rough and in your face element to it, that just comes from the roughness of the Bronx itself.

Who are some of your favorite artists from the BX?

Imma go with Cardi B and Kemba.

Congrats on the release of your self-titled album. Why did you decide that route with the naming of it?

I use to go by a different rap name and back then I always made every title as complex as I could possibly think of. I wanted to strip things down this time around and keep it simple.

How many songs did you originally create when putting this project together? Is there a reason you chose 10 tracks?

For some reason I always gravitated to 10 track projects. Feels like you can tell a begining middle and end if you restrain yourself to 10. Also the X in my name is a ten in roman numerals. Why not.

What were your inspirations during the time of creating it?

Drake/Kanye/Lupe

Who did you create the album for; yourself or your fans or who?

For myself. I wanted to make something I felt was as perfect as I could make.

You are 100% independent. Could you share some advice for other independent artists that are just starting out?

If you are just starting out you should have the energy and passion to consistently produce more and more art. After you make that art. Put it out.

What's next for TYRXNE?

I got ten more songs coming before the end of the year.
