This year on 4/20, the Speakeasy Vape Lounge located in Colorado Springs, CO hosted a concert for the cannabis holiday headlined by Lil Flip with a special performance by Murphy Lee of St. Lunatics. The Speakeasy Vape Lounge (SEVL) is a cannabis club and music venue that provided a perfect setting for the occasion. The building was packed with hip-hop fans, marijuana activists, and many ambassadors of the local cannabis industry. This show was very entertaining with a variety of artists that provided a wide range of sound for concert goers, highlighted by freestyles from both Murphy Lee and Lil Flip.
Doors opened at 4:20, with opening acts starting shortly after. The host (Jaymen Johnson) and DJs (DJ Diablo & DJ Kamikaze) both handled their jobs professionally. The positive vibe in the venue was awesome. The dab bar was hopping and everyone seemed to be in high spirits out celebrating the holiday. The first half of the event felt laid back and relaxed during the dozen acts leading up to St. Lunatics.
The two performances that stood out to me were by MistaTre and Phoenixx Ugrilla. With a diverse track selection for his set, Phoenixx Ugrilla had hip-hop fans rocking with him. The highlight of his set was when he performed his track “Hey Mr. DJ”, this chill club track had the perfect vibe for the occasion. MistaTre had one of the most entertaining performances of the night. He commanded the stage with confidence making it fun to watch. MistaTre’s club track “50 Shades Of Tre”, really got people moving and was well received by the crowd. His performance set the tone leading up to Murphy Lee of St. Lunatics.
Murphy Lee put on a great performance; he had the crowd on their feet within seconds of being on stage. He performed his verses from known tracks such as: “Air Force Ones” and “Shake Ya Tailfeather”. During his set Murphy Lee did a dope freestyle that brought the feeling of hip-hop to the building. Towards the end of his set, He performed his hit track “ What Da Hok Gon Be”. This really brought the energy to the club and was an exclamation point on a great performance. His set was my favorite set of the night and I will be picking up his latest album called Back To The Basics. Lil Flip took the stage next; he literally got the party started and had the crowd at Speakeasy turning up. His track “The Way We Ball” seemed to be a fan favorite. Lil Flip paid homage to the holiday by performing his remix of “I Got 5 On It” which lead to many joints and blunts being sparked for the occasion. Lil Flip also blessed the audience with a freestyle; this freestyle was a fan favorite due to the many lines referring to Colorado and Speakeasy specifically. Murphy Lee and Lil Flip’s freestyles were the highlights of the night for many fans in attendance. These two artists brought the southern Rap sound to Colorado Springs; this only amplified the experience for concert goers as it added to the diversity of the show. This show provided plenty of entertainment for all the fans out for the holiday. This was a very cool concert to attend because of the experience and ambiance of the venue; being able to attend a 4/20 show at a cannabis club in Colorado only attributed to the night. I highly recommend anyone in the area or traveling through to catch a show at the Speakeasy Vape Lounge and enjoy a unique concert experience.
