IS THIS UPCOMING? (EXCLUSIVE @DKMTR1 RANT)

Last night, after my own performance for Upcoming Hip Hop, I stumbled upon the most unique artist this year. Normally, when writers start their articles with a hyperbole such as that, it’s most likely just for publicity’s sake. However, YUNG GEMMY is truly one of a kind! Hailing from Australia, she’s my dream come true! A literal Dragonball Z Fusion of Hip Hop, Trap, Anime & Japanese Culture, in her own cyber reality. What’s even doper is that she produces the music that accompanies her effortless lyrical flow. AND SHE’S ONLY 17!!!

The question now begs to be asked: Is this HIP HOP? Is this upcoming? This is definitely not the current mold for a hip hop artist, let alone a FEMALE hip hop artist. YUNG GEMMY is clearly not a gangster; she clearly doesn’t sell drugs, flaunt exorbitant amounts of money, nor does she hyper-sexualize herself on camera for attention. She isn’t screaming fuck the system, or let’s “bring it back to the 90’s.” She’s nowhere near a backpack rapper, though if she had a backpack, it would probably would be shaped like Yoshi from Super Mario. Yet, YUNG GEMMY is easily one of the most creative acts, I’ve come across in a long time!

For those who know me, they know I’m still a child at heart. I’m the adult-kid still keeping up with my favorite anime, who doesn’t have enough time to enjoy the latest video games I know I’m clearly missing out on. I’m the adult-kid that has going to a comic-con on my bucket list! What I like about YUNG GEMMY so much that she is a voice for the many members of nerd culture who also have a secret love for hip hop. She gives her fans a chance to enjoy hip hop, without feeling guilty about it. I truly respect this young artist for that.

I’m so excited to see with this artist comes up with next. YUNG GEMMY is planned to release her debut mixtape entitled “Internet Princess.” She’s very ambitious and her goal is to tour the United States and meet her fans before she turns 18!! This may not be for everyone and that’s ok! But this in my opinion is still very much Hip Hop!
