Last night (September 17, 2017) I grabbed my camera and headed to Greenpoint, Brooklyn for Akinyemi's EP release concert for summers. Before I made it to Brooklyn Bazaar, I met up with my friend Patrick and had an amazing jerk chicken plate at Pearl's. If you like Caribbean food, I highly recommend you stop there if you are ever in New York City. Fast forward to 9:30 pm, I get to the venue as Amy Leon is going on stage. She gave a very emotional performance that gave me chills on multiple occasions. ATELLER was up next and he brought high energy with his live production and drumming. He added a fun, exciting intermission before Akinyemi hit the stage.
Akinyemi was accompanied by a keyboardist, drummer, bassist, and guitarist on stage throughout his entire set and from the looks of it, they have been practicing for a while. They were in sync and vibed off of each other's energy. It was cool to watch. Akinyemi started the night off by performing a handful of his older music before getting into his new EP summers. He performed the EP from front to back so I was excited for him to get started since "dust calling" (the first track) is my favorite from the project. It felt like the show was over 5 minutes after it started because I had such a great time. Last night reminded me that the good guy wins too. Akinyemi deserves it.
