Last night (11-5-16) I grabbed my camera and headed to Manhattan for The Mic Is Open. The event series originated in 2011 with vision of creating a platform for emerging artist in New York City to showcase their talent, build their brand and connect with key influencers in music, art, and literature. Last night they did just that. It was their five-year anniversary show so they brought out a variety of artists from poets to singers to rappers. The vibes throughout the night were great. Everyone was nice and mostly respectful. It was a well-produced event by the staff so shout-out to them for that. There were a lot of performances because each artist got two tracks and only a few artists stood out to me. There was this R&B kid who was really dope, two singers were incredible, and a handful of rappers. All in all, I had a good time.
