Saigon, Vietnam - February 2016
The first event I was apart of after I made Saigon, Vietnam my home base was the Southside Connection Festival by District X. The sun was just setting and we were called upon to meet for a freestyle video shoot along with four other local Vietnamese emcees. Emcee K went first and opened up with “Today was a G double O D good day” with his matching 90’s/laid back/don’t give a fuck/I’m most likely high flow, his light was hard to ignore and I instantly smiled as I watched him. A week later he slayed his festival performance. As I became more of a regular in the local music scene I learned that the only dedicated hip-hop bar in Saigon, La Canalla was owned by Emcee K and his rhyming partner Madd Dogg. This space also hosts “Saigon Cypher” - the ONLY dedicated monthly outlet for hip-hop heads. In addition, this man is also 1/3 of Viet Music Reunion (VMR) another co-creation with Madd Dogg and producer Nguyen Hong Giang. Together these fellas are booking shows that are free from the confines of genres, all while opening up a platform for local Vietnamese artists and international artists to gain exposure, connect, and hone their craft. If you love hip-hop and you want to experience something very unique, magical and familiar make your way to Saigon, Vietnam and visit Emcee K and his dynamic crew. They will be waiting with good vibes, cold beers, and an atmosphere all music lovers and performers you can relate to with ease.
