As the winter season approaches in the Twin Cities, the spotlight is shining on Minneapolis transplant J Plaza. A quick-witted rapper whose songs balance punchlines and metaphors all while his flow synchs with the heavy base. I first heard of J Plaza earlier this year when he was set to play at the Saloon Stage of Summer Set Music Festival, a festival that featured huge names in hip-hop like Chance the Rapper, Atmosphere, Logic and Flatbush Zombies. From the first song I heard, “Minnesota Alarm”, to his latest aggresion inducing single “Fuck It”, J Plaza is a must hear Twin Cities artist.
The fun aspect of J Plaza for me is that you can't just listen to one of his songs. Once you have heard Fuck It, you will get the urge to continue your high with a fix of bass in songs like “Dat Boi” featuring another local artist in Lyric Marid, “#Go” featuring local up and comer Why Khaliq. And once you can't handle anymore bass you can overdose on his remix “Metro Boomin'”. For me, music is a drug and J Plaza is Schedule 1, highly addictive. The new single has been around for a little while, but his recently released video brings to life the chaos of a man throwing caution to the wind and doing his own thing. The anthem fitting a time when a lot of the country can relate to the sentiment, Fuck It will have you wanting more. Thousands of fans at the Cabooze for PROF Outdoors 3 agreed with this opinion when they spent the majority of his set calling out for the new song. The video was shot and produced by the talented crew at Cereal Films and brings together the trippy graffiti filled atmosphere of a rebel telling authorities and the world his attitude.
