How do I compete?
We will have an open elimination on Saturday November 11, 2017 for solo battlers to show their skills for 60 seconds each. Our judges will score all entries and choose the Top 16 to compete the following day. Top 16 will be announced by 9AM November 12, 2017.

Loop Station & 2V2 competitors must submit an entry video prior to October 10, 2017 to be considered by our judges for entry.
Loop station videos can be up to 3 minutes in length using a BOSS RC-505, 2v2 videos can be up to 2 minutes in length. Submission requirements will be announced soon.

All competitors must purchase a ticket to at least Day 2 (Saturday) of ABC17, agree to competition rules, and sign participation + media release forms in order to compete. Competitors under the age of 18 must have these forms signed by a guardian prior to November 11, 2017. Competitors will not be able to register for open eliminations unless all paperwork is signed and handed in. Forms will be released digitally soon.

Can I compete?
ALL COMPETITORS MUST have US Citizenship or a current US Green Card and identify as primarily American.

***If you do NOT have American citizenship or green card you MUST fill out the section stating your reason for participating in the American Beatbox Championships on the ABC17 application form. Our team will review the application and determine eligibility***

All ages are welcome to compete.

What are we being judged on?
The most common categories which a beatboxer will be judged on is:

-Musicality: Quality of composition, use of melody, harmony, and dynamics. Are all of your beats at one speed and volume, or do you go soft and loud?
-Technicality: How clean your sounds are, speed and complexity.
-Stage Presence: Do you own the stage or are you nervous?
-Flow: Can you create a feel with your beats that gets the crowd dancing or bobbing their heads? There are different kinds of grooves, which is yours?
-Originality: Do you sound like any other beatboxers? Are your sounds unique?

Every Judge has their own style and what they are looking for. Bring your A game and be yourself!

Can I still come if I am under 18?
Yes, ABC17 is all ages. We encourage you to bring your friends and family along to support you as crowd reaction can factor into judge’s decisions. We will be sending out competition rules and participation + media release forms that will need to be signed by all competitors, and if under 18, by a parent or guardian prior to the event.

If you are under 18 and you do not have a parent or guardian coming with you then you will need to have these forms signed before November 11. We will release all forms necessary closer to the event.

What are the categories?
Solo competition, 2V2 Team and Loop Station.

Rules for Solo Battle:
Solo Competitors will showcase their skills to the judges for 60-seconds on Saturday, November 11 during the Open Eliminations. Each battler will be assigned a number and must be prepared to perform when their number is called or risk disqualification.

The Top 16 will be placed bracket style depending on their score. The beatboxer with the highest score after the elimination round will compete vs the beatboxer with the lowest score. The rest of the beatboxers will be placed as follows:

1 vs 16
2 vs 15
3 vs 14
4 vs 13
5 vs 12
6 vs 11
7 vs 10
8 vs 9

Both beatboxers will have two rounds of 90 seconds to show their best routines to the judges and audience. The winner of each battle will move on to the next round until only two beatboxers are left fighting for the chance to be crowned the 2017 American Beatbox Champion. Judges will have the ability to send battles into an extra round if they cannot decide a winner after two rounds.

If a competitor does not show for the Championships on Sunday they will forefeit their slot and all lower ranked beatboxers will move up one position with the 17th highest scoring beatboxer taking the 16 slot etc.

Rules for Loop Station Battle:
The Boss RC 505 is the official loop station for The American Beatbox Championships. For this competition you will be using your own personal RC 505. No other looping machines are permitted. We will be having an online competition prior to the event. All participants will be asked to send a three minute looping video to AmericanBeatboxChampionships@gmail.com
Our judges will rank all online entries and pick the Top 4 Loopers to compete during the Championship. During the event you will have two three-minute rounds to show your best to the judges and audience. You are allowed to bring your own loop station but you will not be allowed to use any pre-made tracks during the competition. Everything must be made in front of the judges and audience. Please do not send any entries in until the online competition is OPEN.

Rules for 2V2 Battle:
Prior to the event we will hold an online competition open for all participants. Two beatboxers will work together to make a 90 second video which you will send to AmericanBeatboxChampionships@gmail.com. Our judges will pick the Top 8 teams to compete during the event. Once at the event the battle will be set up Bracket Style.

Each team will have two rounds of 90 seconds to show their best routines to the judges and audience. The winner of each round will move on to the next battle until only one team is left. Please do not send any entries in until the online competition is OPEN.
