Hip-Hop has many branches, but sometimes its best to get back to the trunk. Flatbush Zombies aren't a perennial act in Minneapolis/St Paul, so taking the opportunity to catch them at the beautifully remodeled Palace Theatre was an experience. Bringing together some old track while highlighting their latest album Vacation in Hell. The night began with openers Nyck Caution and Kirk Knight bring high octane, crowd diving, in your face hip hop that had the place ready to explode. The curtains dropped, the crowd got restless and Flatbush took an already wild crowd to one of the most hype I've seen at Palace yet. An eerie stage with three coffins, fog, and grim lighting had the crowd chanting “Zombies, Zombies, Zombies...” the first busted open with Juice, followed by Erick and as the crowd was reaching a tipping point, Meech arose from the horizontally lain casket to a roar. Having not seen the Flatbush Zombies since their SummerSet performance in 2016 I was blown away by their dedication to the stage performance since then. This was a very memorable performance that had me wishing it was a couple hours longer.
