Interview With WhoIsAriel on "Zoose" & His Many Talents

You do a little bit of everything. What is a typical day like for you?

Yeah, I’m actually a student full time in college right now but I’ll be graduating soon. Whenever I’m not doing school work I focus on making music and building my brands. I do photography, and graphic work whenever a client wants something done. That’s the same with producing beats or recording and engineering. I could be doing any one of those things on any given day. It’s likely I’ll do a little bit of each in one day as well. And of course I make time to go out to other people’s events and connect with everybody when I can.

How long have you been doing what you’re doing and how did you get started in the first place?

I got my first start in producing around 8-9 years ago. I didn’t start seriously recording until four years after. Everything else just came with the territory of being an artist. I always use to draw so graphic design and photography has always been things I was inclined to do. With music, I already had the beats going before I started songwriting/rapping. It wasn’t until 10th grade where I began writing poetry that I realized I can actually put together whole songs by myself. I just couldn’t stop creating ever since.

If you could choose to work with some of today’s established artists or producers, to move your game to the top, with whom would you like to collaborate?

If I could choose, I would want to collaborate with producers like No ID, Pharrell, Metro Boomin, Just Blaze and Kanye.

In what ways has social media shaped your brand or helped your music?

Social media has helped my music just by how easy they make it to be able to reach countless people. Seeing how people respond to what you put out is very important when working on your brand too. It makes it a lot easier to connect with your audience. Getting random DMs from people I don’t know talking about how much they enjoy my music or how it’s helps/inspires them and telling me to keep going is one of the best feelings.

Most successful point in your career thus far?

I’d say it was my release party for Zoose. I planned the whole event and with the help of my amazing team we made it happen. It was a great turn out. Over 130 people came out to the venue in Harlem to show love and support and see only me perform. Not many artists on the scene right now could say they’ve done that. The movement is real and only growing bigger. It was good event, it really showed how far I’ve came and progressed in my career.

How did "Zoose" come about?

I was literally working on a completely different project when Zoose was being created. I was in the studio everyday writing songs and making beats as usual for a mixtape but at the same time I made certain songs that just sounded different. I ended up putting the production of that mixtape on hold and started working with the different sounding songs which later then evolved into Zoose.

Which ingredient do you think is most essential in making your sound and style the way it is?

The most important thing about my music is that it’s real. It comes from a place that I know from experience. It has to be authentic. I’m not just talking about the lyrics but the beats too, if it don’t feel like how I feel, it will never sound how it’s supposed to.
