[Video Premiere] Pat RZL - "Melanin"

2016 has been quite possibly the Blackest year on record. As reality continues to shed light on the all too real effects of racism, it seems that every form of Black art is rising up. There is a protest from and a celebration of everything that is Black happening before our eyes and ears.

Brooklyn-based emcee Pat RZL is in tune with the movement. Her latest single “Melanin” is equal parts rebellious and triumphant. The visual, directed by KOTA the Friend of aiP and CHIMP, reinforce the dual seriousness and fun of the song. Imagine a Talib Kweli message over a Future beat. Sound interesting? Hit the play button.

"This song Melanin to me promotes self-awareness, self-awakening, and self-love to people of color. I want listeners to digest the lyrics that are so profoundly being conveyed as well as turn up to the melodic hook. In light of what has been going on in today's society, I need people to understand that we are all equal and that it is imperative that we start promoting Love & Peace. Inspiration for the song was derived from my new found knowledge of what the word Melanin meant, and how significant I thought it was for others to gain access to this new insight." -Pat RZL
