Last night (5-11-16) I finally made it to Sehiii, a weekly event series I have been trying to get to for the past couple months. Sehiii is a Brooklyn based DIY arts organization dedicated to promoting art, culture, community and entrepreneurship. As soon as I walked in, I felt a part of their community. Everyone was so friendly and the good vibes were contagious. It was their first time at this venue, Pacific BK, because they have grown too big for their old space. Vendors were set up alongside the walls showcasing art, clothes, products, and more. The afro-centric community is so inspiring for so many reasons. They are all about supporting their community and keeping things natural and real. I was definitely inspired by the time I left last night. The night started out with a meet and greet. Everyone had to find someone they didn't know and go talk to them. I ended up meeting a chef and photographer. This was a great idea because I ended up leaving with a few more friends than I came with. Following community building, the vendors got a few minutes to talk about their art/products before we quickly got into performances. It was a diverse lineup that featured singers, producers, and rappers. The crowd showed every artist respect by watching and giving praise after every song. Sehiii is not your ordinary event. I highly recommend checking them out.
