Sporting a Casey Jones Mask, Chris Webby walked onto the stage. His entrance set the tone for his one hour and fifteen minute plus performance that gave music fans an authentic Hip Hop experience on Friday Night at The Black Sheep in Colorado Springs. This pure hip hop performance peaked when Chris Webby decided to go a cappella for the first part of the track “F*ck Off”. He had a drummer throughout his set to add to the crowds show experience as well. Tracks performed varied throughout his discography, from mixtape to album content his show disc selection did not disappoint. Chris Webby performed his classic tracks such as: “I’m Gone”, “So Easy”, “Superhuman”, “Chemically Imbalanced and more. Webby paid homage to the fans and the state of Colorado by thanking fans who been rocking with him since day one and expressed how grateful he was to receive so many gracious gifts of bud from his supporters. He also mentioned to be on the lookout for his next mixtape “Webster’s Laboratory 2”. Webby finished the set with an encore that included the tracks, “That’s Life” and “La La La”. I was overall impressed with Chris Webby’s performance; from the variety of tracks he performed to the contagious vibe he spread, Chris Webby had hip hop fans raving about his performance as they left the Black Sheep. This was the second stop for Webby on his three day tour of Colorado, which ended in Denver on Saturday. This was my first Chris Webby show and I highly recommend you catch one of his live performances, guaranteed you will not be disappointed.

Opening acts featured many talented artists. This list includes: 2sik, Legacy, Simply T, Empirical Knowledge and Brandon Scott & INTA:LECT. All these artists put on good performances, but two particular performances stood out. I liked these artist’s performances because they displayed superb stage presence and great song selection within their set. When looking at the opening acts the first artist that comes to mind is Empirical Knowledge. He brought a conscious hip hop vibe to the show with his set. This versatile artist used relatable lyrics and crowd moving beats to enhance the concert goer’s experience. Brandon Scott & INTA:LECT also put on an entertaining show. This high energy duo used in your face lyrics over hard banging beats and proved to be the perfect selection to lead into the main performance.

This night also featured a surprise performance by the host Juz J. The Brass Knuckle Gang (BKG) artist performed his track “Ordinary Squad Shit”, which received great applause and screams from the crowd. This show provided plenty of entertainment for fans and demonstrated that the hip hop scene is very much alive in Colorado Springs. Kirko Bangz is the next artist coming to town; he will be performing at the Rawkus, Friday March 18th.
