Review by DJ Slice @THEDJSLICE

Top 3 Tracks: "Role Models" "Patrick" "Lyrical Dope"

Long Island native Gator releases his first mixtape, London. Packed with cool rhymes and long intros, Gator sets a platform for himself to grow and expand his sound.

This mixtape starts off with a Samuel L. Jackson quote from the 1994 movie 'Fresh.' After a minute, we finally hear Gator rapping over probably the most sampled drum break ever: 'Impeach The President' by The Honey Drippers. The first track, "Intro (Checkmate)," has a very New York sound. The flow, the beat, the rhymes. Personally, I just wish producers stopped using the same samples over and over again. But, that's neither here nor there. It's a good intro. On the second track, 'Role Models', Gator greets us with a cool chorus accompanied with a smooth instrumental. This is definitely that New York style. The third track, 'What Happens In Vegas', starts off with a quote from Al Pacino in the movie 'The Godfather'. After another long minute, we hear the MC spit a quick hook and a verse. "Big n****, sweat a lot, juice way different." Gator got the flow and the swagger on this one. Just wishing this song had a second verse. On the fourth track, 'Patrick', this emcee shows us the darker street side of his style. The fifth track, and probably my favorite, is that quintessential New York feel. Not sure what sample this producer uses but, Gator did a pretty good job with the flow on this one.

To wrap this up, Gator has a good amount of work to do. He definitely has a lot of potential. London is a cool tape even though, he only mentions London once. 'Next step, London; with my feet up.' Gator could have expanded on that theme: London. He says it himself in one of his songs: 'I'm just perfecting my verses.' Every song on this project is sample based. On the next tape, hopefully we get more creative production and a feature or two. Listen to the tape and tell us what you think of Gator!
